About Habitat Compass
Habitat Compass is a free browser tool for comparing cities abroad and narrowing a shortlist before you move. It does not decide for you, and it does not provide immigration or visa services.
What it is
A city-settlement decision tool for digital nomads, freelancers and remote workers. The library currently holds 270 cities and reference data for 65 countries. After the quiz, a three-tier weighting scores those cities and returns a Top 5 report.
Who it is for
People considering a move or a stretch of remote work in another city: digital nomads, freelancers, independent developers, and anyone comparing cost, climate, internet and visa notes. It lines your budget and preferences up with public data on one basis.
How the quiz and the data work
The free standard test takes about 8 minutes: 32 original situational-judgment items, 8 lifestyle questions and 16 interest tags. You can then continue with an optional deep test (Big Five and RIASEC, about 15 minutes). A report is still produced if you stop after the standard test.
Tier 1 drops cities that fail a hard constraint such as budget, visa or safety. Tier 2 is the core match: lifestyle preferences 42%, personality 30% and interests 18%, across 11 dimensions. A missing dimension is down-weighted. We do not fill the gap with a guess. Tier 3 adds RIASEC, risk linkage and air quality, together at or below 10%.
Each data card names its source. A cell with no citable source is marked unverified. We do not invent the number. The methodology page states the weights and the calibration formula in full.
What it does not do
The site is informational reference only. It is not legal or immigration advice, and it is not a visa, residence, tax, medical, insurance or financial service. Rules change. Check the official channel before you travel.
The Nomad Decision Kit is not yet for sale. Sample cells marked unverified mean a citable source was missing at the time. That is not a claim that the visa does not exist.
