Passports & visas64 × 64
Entry rules for the 64 destinations we cover, by passport; dataset snapshot 2026-02-17.
One concrete question: with a given passport, of the 64 destinations we cover, how many are visa-free or visa on arrival, and how many need a visa in advance? This is not a global passport ranking - the denominator is 64, not the 199 destinations worldwide.

All passports: visa-free and on-arrival counts
Ordered by visa-free + on-arrival count, then by authorisation + e-visa count. Counts within our covered set only — not a judgement about any passport.

Source: Passport Index mirror dataset (MIT, licence), dataset last updated 2026-02-17, retrieved 2026-10-18, page generated 2026-10-18. This is a third-party aggregation, not per-country official gazettes. It is a different source from the hand-verified mainland-China passport snapshot (2025-01-15) on our country pages; where they disagree we show both side by side on the China page instead of hiding one. Rules change often - always confirm with the destination's official immigration channel before travelling.
FAQ
Where do these entry rules come from?
From the Passport Index mirror dataset (MIT) 199-country matrix, cut down here to 64 passports x 64 destinations. The dataset states last update 2026-02-17; we retrieved it on 2026-10-18. It is an aggregation, not a per-country official gazette.
What is the difference between visa-free, travel authorisation and e-visa?
Visa-free means entering on your passport, with the stay length set by the destination. Visa on arrival is issued at the border. Travel authorisation (US ESTA, Canada eTA, UK ETA) is an online registration, usually approved in minutes, and is not a visa. An e-visa is an online application that must be approved - substantively still a visa. We list the four separately so "apply in advance" is not confused with "walk on".
Why only 64 destinations?
This page covers only our country library (65 countries; Puerto Rico is a US territory with no separate passport or destination column in the dataset). The rest of the global 199 are not in scope yet; missing cells are left blank rather than filled with zeros.
Why might this differ from the hand-verified China snapshot?
The visaPassport field on country pages is a hand-verified January 2025 snapshot; this page is a third-party aggregation with a different update cadence. Where they disagree we list both values on the China passport page; the official channel decides.
